Creissan

creissan churchIn the heart of the wine-growing plain, Creissan is located a few kilometers from Canal du Midi. It was one of the first villages in western Hérault to set up a tourist complex in the early 80s (camping, swimming pools et green homes) in the heart of the village in order to develop green tourism, the precursor of today's sustainable tourism.

Located on the edge of the old railway line transformed into Greenway which connects Capestang to Cruzy, the village is surrounded by scrubland and vineyards. Horse riding, hiking (7 km Bories circuit) allow you to immerse yourself in a preserved environment.

Located equidistant from Narbonne and Béziers, it is today an ideal vacation or residence location with numerous shops and services.

Its history over the centuries

The castle was acquired in 945 by the Viscount of Narbonne and his wife then sold to the Archbishop of Narbonne, Aymeric, who donated it a few years later to the Saint Just Chapter of Narbonne.

Ramparts seem to have reinforced the construction from the XNUMXth century.

Ransacked several times by the "Tuchins" in revolt against royal tax levies at the end of the XNUMXth century and during the wars of religion, the castle's accommodation was renovated in the XNUMXth century but the castle was transformed over the decades into an establishment agricultural.

Sold after the French Revolution as national property, it was successively transferred to owner-occupiers before being bought by the municipality which transformed it into an exhibition hall open to the public.

The XNUMXth century church is dedicated to Saint Martin.
