Castle from the Cathar period (XNUMXth and XNUMXth century), it is located in the heart of the circular village of Puisserguier, on one of the roads to Santiago de Compostela.
Its important remains bear witness to a rich history: in the year 1209 during the Albigensian crusade, it was one of the first faydit (rebel) castles forcing Simon de Montfort to come and besiege it.
The ARESP association which manages it will make you discover the vestiges of the building through a guided visit of the fortified enclosure, but also of the recently inaugurated image gallery. This magnificent restored setting in the former Pourcenal house was ideal for showcasing the medieval enclosures from the painted ceiling of the viguier's house which have been brought to light. After restoration, you can admire these formidable vestiges of medieval heritage: characters, writings, heraldry, and other fantastic animals, particularly well preserved, as well as videos and explanatory tables.
A must visit.
