FONTCAUDE ABBEY

Abbey classified as historical monuments. An abbey of the Premonstratensian order in the heart of Languedoc near a sacred source and stage of a Saint-Jacques road. The ultimate example of Romanesque architecture in the region.
In the heart of a plateau of scrubland, the Fontcaude valley is home to a sacred spring near which canons settled from the year 1154. Perfectly restored, the abbey is a jewel of Romanesque art in Languedoc. Abbey, cloister, museum of sculptures, foundry of bells (1969th century), oil mill have been offered for contemplation since XNUMX, when the association of “Friends of Fontcaude” undertook the restoration of the place. Jacques de Compostelle, the abbey hosts concerts of Gregorian chant.
Every July 25, the “Jacquaire de Septimie brotherhood” organizes its chapter during the feast dedicated to the apostle. This event, open to all, is part of the restoration of tradition and conservation.
