Mentioned as early as 972, the church is adorned with frescoes by Estonian artist Nicolas Greshny dating from 1950. He respected Byzantine techniques of applying natural ochre pigments to the still-fresh plaster. The frescoes depict scenes from the Old Testament and the life of Saint Roch.
His work provokes you, fascinates you, and inspires you to travel and meditate. The beauty of the icons and the powerful colors compel contemplation.
