The Romanesque House of Capestang dates from the beginning of the 12th century. The architectural detail of the facade and the quality of the stone inside testify to the wealth of the owners at the time. Above the portal, the house bears the inscription “Pax Domui Mat”, probably inspired by the Gospel of Saint Luke: In quacumbe domun intraveretis, primum dicité: pax domui et si ibi fuerir filius pacis, requiescet super illum pax nostra et omnibus in ea”. (Translation: “Into whatever house you enter, first say: Peace be upon this house and all its inhabitants”
